What is a choom?
A choom is slang for a friend — someone on your side, in your corner. Tech Choom takes the word literally: a technical partner who acts like a friend with the skills rather than a vendor with an invoice.
Most people who recognise the word know it from Cyberpunk 2077, where it is the ordinary street greeting of Night City — what you call someone you trust enough to speak plainly to. It is not a coined term. It shortens older American slang, choomba, which was in use long before the game gave it a second life.
The game did not invent the meaning either, only the accent. Underneath it is a very old idea: the difference between someone you have hired and someone who is actually on your side. One of them tells you what you asked to hear.
We are not a gaming company and this is not a reference for its own sake. The word was chosen because it names the thing we were trying to build a company around, and no ordinary business word does. Partner is a contract. Vendor is a transaction. Choom is neither.

The word is only worth using if it changes something. These are the four things it is meant to mean.
Someone who tells you the brief is wrong
A supplier builds what the brief said, invoices, and leaves. If the brief was wrong, that is your problem and their revenue. A choom says so before the work starts — which is only possible when nobody's commission depends on the project being bigger than it needs to be.
Someone you can actually reach
No account manager, no ticket queue, no relay. You describe the problem to the person who is going to solve it, and the reply comes from them. This is not a service promise; it is a structural fact of being small on purpose.
Someone who hands you the keys
Domains, hosting, accounts and the code itself sit in your name from the first day. A choom who has to be paid to release your own business is not a choom. If you ever want to leave, you can, and we will help you do it.
Someone who says no
We turn down work we would be learning on at your expense, rebuilds of things that do not need rebuilding, and anything sold on a guaranteed ranking. A studio that takes everything is telling you nothing about what it is good at.

Who the chooms are.
The chooms are the people who build the work — a small senior group rather than a pyramid with a salesperson at the top and juniors at the bottom. Everyone who talks to you also ships. That is the whole arrangement, and it is why the project list stays short.
Being small is the constraint that makes the rest of it true. Weekly demos, a live link early, fixed scope agreed before anyone starts, mistakes fixed free and without an expiry date — none of these survive contact with an agency org chart. They are ordinary when the person answering your message is the person who wrote the code.

No. Tech Choom is an independent engineering studio with no affiliation to CD Projekt Red or the Cyberpunk franchise. The name borrows a piece of slang because it describes the working relationship we wanted — a technical friend rather than a vendor.
Is it spelled Tech Choom or TechChoom?
Both refer to the same studio. The company is written Tech Choom as two words, and the domain is techchoom.com. Either spelling will find us.
What makes a Tech Choom different from an agency?
